Annual Shrine Benefit Dinner: Each spring for the past six years, hundreds of friends of the Shrine from across Chicago have gathered for a culturally-themed dinner event in order to raise funds for the restoration of the historic landmark church which is home to Christ the Infant King and to so many of His people. Last year’s Evening in Roma raised over $51,000--a new record!
We are excited to invite you to this year’s dinner, Celebrate Chicago, commemorating the religious and cultural events of our City’s history. The gala will be held on Saturday, March 30 (that’s the mid-Lenten weekend of Laetare) from 5pm-9pm. Since the venue from previous years is not available, the gala will be at Camelot Banquets in Hickory Hills (on 95th Street just west of I-294).
Everyone is welcome for this important fundraising event! Please consider inviting new people to fill the new venue in order that they may learn more about this extraordinary project of building a Shrine of national importance for Christ our Infant King. This year’s dinner is of special importance for a strong beginning to Phase II construction work on the church’s interior.
This next milestone will mean new insulation with fire protection, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, windows, lighting, doors, drywall and everything else necessary to reopen the doors of this landmark church to you and the community.
As we continue restoring this gem of history to its former beauty and to once again have its mission positively impact the Woodlawn Community in Chicago's South Side, we are celebrating our great city and the generosity of its people as we work together to realize our community goal.
