Christmas with the Wandering Oratory

Nativity Close Up

Since June of 2020, our little Oratory has been tossed about in various locations as Canon Ueda outlines in his most recent letter (You can read about it here).  Trusting in God’s providence and committing our needs to the intercession of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, our faithful members continued to move forward, finding a home in the stable, albeit temporary, location we are in today on Winchester Blvd.

Reflecting on this past year, there have been many encouraging signs that God has not abandoned us here in the heart of Silicon Valley.  In April 2022, after the arduous task of redesigning our current space to accommodate our needs, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Oratory was up and running again!  October of 2022 marked the official beginning of our fundraising efforts.  This sparked a glimmer of hope that our community would remain intact, and the Sacraments would continue to be available to our growing Traditional membership.  Achieving the goal of acquiring a permanent home came into focus.

Having found the stability we needed and no conflicts with other groups or schedules, the Oratory had the freedom this year to enter the sacred season of Christmas with the fullness of our liturgical traditions. Despite our humble accommodations, every effort was made to usher in the Nativity of our Lord in the most reverent and beautiful manner.  Moreover, the IHM Oratory celebrated four Rorate Caeli Masses in the week leading up to Christmas, the first since 2013 when the apostolate was erected in San Jose.

It appears the storm has calmed for the immediate future, and the Lord is allowing us a short break from our wanderings. We look forward to this new year with joy, excitement, and all that it may bring.   Please continue to follow us on our journey.  May God grant us grace to achieve a goal of Tradition for Tomorrow California!
