Canon Zignego First Mass at St. Francis de Sales Oratory

O Lord, send us priests! O Lord, send us Holy Priests! O Lord, send us many Holy Priests and religious vocations!

On October 14, 2018 the faithful at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, witnessed the fruits of many prayers and sacrifices as newly ordained priest, Canon Luke Zignego celebrated his First Solemn High Mass and gave his priestly blessing to the faithful in attendance.

Raised in a Catholic family of which Canon Zignego is the fifth child of ten children, his vocation grew and was nourished by his good Catholic parents and within the setting of the Institute's apostolate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began his journey to the priesthood as a candidate in Chicago, Illinois under the direction of Canon Matthew Talarico. Following this year of candidacy, Canon Zignego studied as a seminarian at the Institute's Seminary in Gricigliano, Italy for seven years. By the grace of God, on August 2, 2018, he was ordained by His Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, Missouri.

To attend Canon Zignego's First Mass on Sunday, October 14, 2018 was truly an exciting day as it marked the first of many holy masses, the most powerful prayer, to be celebrated for many years to come. In his sermon, he expounded upon the beauty of the priesthood and it's sacredness, but also that he began as a man not unlike the rest of us. Now that he is an ordained priest, however, his soul has significantly changed due to the graces of the sacrament of Holy Orders that he received. He is a priest forever and for all time he will bless the faithful by educating, administering the sacraments and therefore forming the souls of many.

Among his sacramental role as a priest, Canon Zignego was assigned as vicar and General Manager to St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis. With the large campus that includes the beautiful, grand church, two huge school buildings and a sizable convent, much work is required and necessary and therefore he helps oversee many projects and maintenance.

First Masses are only the beginning of a lifetime of a priest's sacred life. To be a part of this beginning is a remarkable experience for anyone who truly understands the value holy priests have in our society today. Truly, we are grateful that God has heard our prayers and sent us priests!
