Excerpted from July Newsletter

2020 07 FreedomJuly is traditionally the month we as Catholics honor the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, celebrating this feast day on the first of the month. Additionally, as Americans, it is the month we also celebrate our great nation's birth 244 year ago, renewing in our hearts a gratitude for all those who gave their blood in defense of the unalienable rights we enjoy, namely life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The month of July reminds us all that freedom isn't free - nothing is. Everything costs something, and even though something may be freely given to us, it always comes at a price for the ones who offer us their gift. This is indeed true about our earthly freedoms; it is most eminently true about our eternal freedom and the grace of our salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord and Sovereign King.

To be free from the bonds of sin and the flames of hell, it cost our Blessed Lord no less than every drop of His Most Precious Blood, poured out for us on the eternal battlefield of the Cross. This was the price of our eternal freedom. This was the price of our salvation. We must ask ourselves, "Am I truly grateful to be free?"

If we are ungrateful for the gifts we receive, it is much more difficult for us to preserve them. We neglect to do what is necessary to take care of them, and we may even perhaps lose them, all because we did not appreciate the sacrifice made on the part of those who gave them to us. We will lose what we do not treasure.

CanonTalaricoThis July, let us renew our gratitude to almighty God for all of His innumerable gifts to us, and let us ask Him for the graces to take care and protect the most precious gift of our redemption in the Blood of His dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Assuring you of my continued prayers as I offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for you and your families, while thanking you for your continued prayers and support in these difficult times, I remain,

Yours devotedly in the Most Precious Blood of Christ our King and Sovereign Priest,

Rev. Canon Matthew Talarico, Provincial Superior
