Solemnity of St. Joseph

To the servant of God, every place is the right place, and every time is the right time.

Dear Faithful,

As we begin this great month of May, I desire to write to each of you to give you some words of encouragement as these difficult times continue to drag on. These past weeks have been difficult for all of us, a Lent and an Easter spent like none other, but Christ is still glorified. He permits all of the difficulties we have been forced to endure. To the servant of God, every place is the right place, and every time is the right time (Letter T328). the great St. Catherine of Siena once said. Our preoccupation and anger at what has been happening only serves to prove the fact that we lack that supernatural faith and trust in Divine Providence that has plagued humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve.

On this Feast of St. Joseph, let us look to him, the glorious patron of Holy Church as well as the particular patron of our apostolate. In all the twists and turns of his life, mysteriously bound as it was to the Incarnation and Redemption, he abandoned himself in all simplicity to the will of God, manifested to him at times in extraordinary ways, but most often in the minute circumstances of daily life, humbling himself under the mighty hand of God(cf. I Peter V, 6). In all he did, his eyes were kept fixed on his final goal: the glory of God. May we imitate his faith.

How could we not turn as well, during this month of May, to our heavenly Mother? I encourage you to keep as best you can, the traditional and time-honored practices of honoring the Queen of Heaven during the month of May in your homes, perhaps erecting a small altar in her honor, decorating it with flowers and candles, and there recite the holy rosary daily, beginning her to intercede with her Divine Son for the Church, our nation, our apostolate and our families. May she help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and to always remember that we too were made not for this world, but for heaven.

I will continue to make myself available for confessions each Sunday at St. Joseph’s beginning from 10:30 to 12:30. Please also remember to recite at noon and 6pm each day the short invocations: Jesus, I trust in you! and Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us! as suggested by our Bishop, the Most Reverend Robert McClory.

You are all remembered in a special way each day at the altar, as I continue to offer the Holy Mass for you, your families and your intentions. I am grateful to each of you as well, for your continuing prayers and support. May Our Blessed Mother bless each of you, your homes and loved ones with the Divine King.

          Yours in Christ the King,

          Rev. Canon James Hoogerwerf,
