St. Joseph Shrine in Detroit celebrated the 150th anniversary of its 1873 dedication this year. On Sunday, March 19, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke gave a conference on St. Joseph as Protector of the Church.
On March 20, Solemnity of St. Joseph, transferred from the previous day because of the Sunday in Lent, the day began with a Solemn Pontifical Mass celebrated by His Eminence at St. Joseph Shrine.
After the Mass followed a procession with a relic of St. Joseph to Eastern Market.
A large St. Joseph Italian Dinner followed the procession, with church tours and a concert taking place at the Shrine. The festivities reached their peak with Solemn Vespers and Benediction with His Eminence assisting in choir.
To put a holy end on this beautiful day, the clergy sang Compline, the night prayer of the Church.
Deo gratias for such a day filled with blessings! Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Protector of the Church, pray for us!
