For nearly one hundred and fifty years, faithful have venerated the statue of Our Lady of Consolation at her National Shrine, in Carey, OH, which was elevated to the rank of Minor Basilica on October 21st, 1971.
The Statue of Our Lady of Consolation, a replica of the statue long-venerated in the Cathedral of Luxembourg in Europe, welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year to experience heavenly consolation under the mantle of Immaculate Mary, particularly on the great feast of her Glorious Assumption when thousands typically flock to the Shrine to celebrate the Triumph of Our Blessed Mother.
Not long after that great feast, on Saturday, August 17th of this year, faithful from the apostolates of the Institute of Christ the King in Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburgh came to Carey and to Our Lady of Consolation to place the intentions of Holy Mother Church, of the United States, and of our Institute and faithful into the hands of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted.

After praying the Most Holy Rosary, a Solemn Votive Mass of the Most Blessed Virgin, celebrated by the Rev. Canon William Avis, took place in the historic Upper Basilica of the Shrine.
Let us give thanks to Almighty God and to Our Immaculate Queen for the outpouring of graces received on the occasion of this pilgrimage! We are likewise grateful to the Conventual Franciscan Friars who serve at the Shrine and whose kind hospitality made our stay at the Shrine both pleasant and grace-filled.
We encourage all of our faithful to look forward to next year’s pilgrimage in the month of August, when we hope to renew and solidify an annual tradition of pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, OH.
