January 25, Walk For Life West Coast - San Francisco - The annual Walk for Life West Coast will take place on Saturday, January 25 in San Francisco. The event will begin at 11 am. As always, the Oakland and San Jose Apostolates of the Institute of Christ the King will take part in this important occasion of witness to the sanctity of human life, particularly the unborn threatened with abortion. December 1 & 8 - We will also once again send Christmas cards to the seminarians in early December, organized by the Seminary Society of Oakland Apostolate. Being a seminarian can bring the cross of loneliness at times, especially for those unable to return home at Christmastime. These cards are a wonderful reminder to these young men that pious souls are praying for them tirelessly and lovingly. The cards will be available for signing in Fr. Kozina Hall on the Sundays of December 1 and December 8 after the 7 am and 12:30 pm Masses.
Through December 7 - Preparatory Novena for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sunday, December 8) begins on Friday, November 29 and will continue until Saturday, December 7. There will be a short sermon each day at Mass, as well as a decade of the Rosary, the Litany of Loreto, the Novena Prayer and the chanted Marian antiphon after Mass.
December 11 - The monthly dinner for our Apostolate's Men's Group, the Men of St. Joseph, will be next Wednesday, December 11 at 7:15 pm in Fr. Kozina Hall. Join us for a talk on Our Lady of Guadalupe! Also: time for Q&A, and a delicious catered dinner. Catholic men need fraternity among themselves, so we hope to see you there! December 12 - Our monthly Sursum Corda event for young adult Catholics will take place next Thursday, December 12. The evening will begin at 6 pm with the Rosary recited in church, followed by a talk at 6:30 and then a social dinner. RSVP to Omar Jadallah-Karraa at:
December 14 - There will be a Chivalry Conference for young men (ages 8-18) on Saturday, December 14 from 11:30-1:30 pm, followed by a potluck lunch. Email Canon Norman to RSVP, for more information or to help with the organization.
Now through December 21 - We are organizing a Christmas Eve Toy Drive for the benefit of less fortunate families in Oakland. It is truly a work of Christian charity to bring some Christmas joy to the hearts of the young. A large open box will be made available in Fr. Kozina Hall during this month for depositing unwrapped, new toys. No food or old toys, please. Donations must be in by Saturday, December 21. For questions, contact Ben Palacios:
Now through December 22 - Crèche drawing contest! Young artist: Submit your best illustrations of the Nativity of Our Lord by Sunday, December 22. Illustrations can be delivered to Canon Norman in person or by email. The winner (and prizes!) will be revealed at the Sunday reception on January 5.
December 27, Blessing of Wine on the Feast of St. John - Friday, December 27 is the Feast of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist. There will be the traditional Blessing of Wine after the 6 pm Mass, followed by Adoration. Please place your bottles of wine in front of the pews closest to the Communion Rail before Mass.
December 28, Blessing of Sacramentals - The monthly Blessing of Sacramentals will take place on Saturday, December 28, after the 10 am Mass. You may bring your various sacramentals, such as rosaries, medals, scapulars, statues, images, oil and salt, to be blessed in the church immediately following Mass. Please read the reminders.
December 28, Sursum Corda Party - Our young adult group, Sursum Corda, is having a Christmas party on Saturday, December 28 in Fr. Kozina Hall, beginning at 6 pm. See the flyer.

November 1 & 2 - The Mass schedule for All Saints’ Day (November 1, a Holy Day of Obligation) and All Souls’ Day (November 2) is as follows:
On Friday, November 1, there will be a Low Mass at 10 am and a High Mass at 6 pm, followed by First Friday devotions.
On Saturday, November 2, there will be a Low Requiem Mass at 6:30 am, again at 10 am and a High Requiem Mass at 12 pm.
November 3 - Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 3. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday evening, and wake up more rested than usual!
November 3 - The Christmas cards from the Institute of Christ the King have arrived! They will be sold in the vestibule starting Sunday, November 3, after the 7 am Mass, and in Fr. Kozina Hall after the 12:30 pm Mass, for $20 per pack of ten.
November 7 - Our visit to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oakland (4529 Howe Street) to pray for the souls of our beloved faithful departed will take place on Thursday, November 7 after the 12 pm Mass.
A plenary indulgence applicable to the Holy Souls is traditionally attached to any prayers offered for them in a cemetery from November 1-8. For more information, see the November indulgences guidelines.
November 9 - The monthly training for the Altar Servers will be on Saturday, November 9 from 11:30 – 12:30, with lunch afterwards. We hope to see you there!
November 13 - The monthly dinner for our Apostolate's Men's Group, the Men of St. Joseph, will be Wednesday, November 13 at 7:15 pm in Fr. Kozina Hall. Join us for a brief spiritual talk on living out our Catholic Faith in the world today, Q&A, and a relaxed, convivial catered dinner. November 17 - The monthly Lesson in Liturgy will be on Sunday, November 17 at 3:15 pm in Fr. Kozina Hall. We will continue our study of Fr. Nicholas Gihr’s classic tome, The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (1902). The Holy Mass is the highest form of prayer on earth, the very sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ made present on our altars. Let us ever deepen our knowledge of the sacred mysteries. Please see the attached pdf for the lesson.
November 23 - The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered by Bishop Michael Barber on Saturday, November 23 at 10 am here at St. Margaret Mary’s. The Confirmations, which are anticipated to last roughly one hour (more or less) will begin at 10 am. The Mass will follow afterwards.
Confirmations Rehearsal will take place on Thursday, November 21, at 5:30 pm in the church.
