Progress
Here is the work we have already accomplished:
- the commercial kitchen with its ovens, refrigerators and freezers is now fully functional
- most of the hallway bathrooms and bedroom sinks are now repaired, thoroughly cleaned and functioning
- renovations have been completed to provide suitable lodging and office space for the resident staff in the center cross wing of the building
- the grounds have been cleared of brush and the paths in the woods reopened, and the vast lawn is regularly mown by generous volunteers
- the outdoor Stations of the Cross and crucifixion scene have been restored
- work is well underway to convert a former outdoor restroom facility into a full bath house which will serve the needs of our summer youth camps starting this July
Expanded Phase I: $6.8 million
Working with our own hired architect from Barrientos Design, we have now engaged Berghammer Construction as our general contractor to execute phase one of our renovation project. This phase will accomplish significantly more of the work than originally envisaged; comprising the entire north wing and center cross wing, it will include the following:
- 21 guest rooms with private bath
- 2 full guest suites
- 8 bedrooms for clergy along with private dining room and common area
- fully restored refectory for retreatants
- welcome area and lounge and retreat center gift shop
- additional office space for the needs of the retreat center and the Institute
- one large conference room with a capacity of 100 people
- top floor chapel with seating for 80 people, which will be used daily for all retreats
- replacement of all windows
- central air conditioning
Plans are being finalized with engineers throughout the summer, and the construction work is scheduled to take place from October, 2024 through May, 2025. Completion of phase one will allow for the commencement of a full schedule of silent retreats, as we proceed to subsequent phases in the year to follow. God willing, the feast of the Sacred Heart in 2025 will mark the opening of our doors.
