2018 Oblate Retreat in St. Louis

From across the United States, the Oblates of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest gathered in late September for a five day retreat. The purpose of the retreat is a spiritual renewal and strengthening the spiritual bond of unity among the clerical oblates of the Institute. Each day consisted of Daily Mass, the Divine Office chanted together with the Canons, two spiritual conferences given by the Canons, meals in silence and plenty of time for meditation, spiritual reading and rest. On the last day, the oblates and oblate candidates had the opportunity to grow amicably by competing in miniature golf and bowling. Finally, the retreat ended with a relaxed, evening meal.

To witness the gathering of these most needed, hard-working and well respected men of the Institute was inspiring to families at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis. Knowing how diligently the oblates serve on a daily basis, it gives the faithful much appreciation for their time, energy and effort. Whether they are performing their duties as a Sacristan, training the altar boys, teaching Catechism classes or other various jobs, these men work according to their state in life as an oblate and therefore untiringly serve countless people. The oblate retreat is no doubt a time of reflection for these holy men that is well deserved and needed for their continuous service in each of their assigned apostolates.
